Entrance exams

Our Institute is launching a new Translation Studies PhD programme in French and English, accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic. If you are interested in joining the programme, please contact the Chair of the Scientific Committee.

Requirements for acceptance as a PhD student:

  • PhD dissertation proposal

  • Foreign language exam

  • Master's degree

The entrance exams consist of the following parts:

  • Discussion and interview concerning the applicant's dissertation proposal

  • Discussion about the applicant's bibliography and translation and/or interpreting experience

  • Translation text analysis, provided that the applicant is not a graduate of our school

  • Language skills test for English (provided the applicant is not a native speaker) or for French, German, Russian or Spanish, if English was the subject of their Master's degree

The dissertation proposal should be focused on translation studies (theory, history, methodology or empirical research) and should contain the following:

  • Goals and objectives of the study

  • Summary of the current state of research

  • Methodological issues and approaches

  • Contributions to the field

  • Bibliography and sources
